Do Supplements Help People Attain Lifelong Good Health?

Health, fitness and supplements are important topics in the world these days. You can tell by all the health-related magazines, TV and radio programs and Web sites everywhere you turn. I think all that health information has become more commonplace because people are trying to stay healthy in our fast-food society and they need good information to do that. I believe they’re confused because of the lack of emphasis on health now that fast food has entered the picture. Consuming calories from junk food that taste good but offer no nutrition has resulted in a generally lower standard of health. We’re also not as connected to what is good for our bodies, because along with eating junk food, the trend in recent years has been to move away from physical activity in our jobs. That combination has caused people to look for other methods to stay healthy.

On the surface, people look better and have higher self-esteem if they’re in good shape. But as you dig down into the heart of the matter, you’ll see there are many other reasons to keep the body in tip-top shape. For one thing, people who live healthy lifestyles enjoy more of their lives and have a much better chance of living illness-free. Good health allows them to achieve a quality of life they wouldn’t otherwise have. Those are some pretty good reasons to work on your health. If you need more, however, think about your family and friends. I’ll bet they’d all say they want you to be healthy and fit so you can stick around for as long as possible!

One method people use to stay healthy is to take vitamins and supplements. But are nutrition supplements all they’re cracked up to be? I think you have to answer that based on your own experience but there have been quite a few studies that suggest there is great value in supplements. One good example of this are the studies inspired by World War II RAF pilots whose night vision improved when they ingested the herb bilberry. Scientists studied the role of bilberry~bilberries~extract of bilberry~bilberry extracts~bilberry extract on general vision health and established a reliable connection. In point of fact, some recent studies have indicated that bilberries or bilberry supplements can increase visual acuity in people who are healthy, and can also aid those who have eye diseases such as age-related macular degeneration (AMD), glaucoma and cataracts. There are also other supplements that studies show have a good effect on eye health, like vitamin A and lutein. And these are just a few vision-related examples. Medical textbooks are full of documentation that details research studies on every possible substance. Of course, I don’t know how many of these other substances had the same glowing research findings as bilberry. It’s important to check for yourself, making sure you get the latest research available. Don’t forget, supplements can be just as risky as pharmaceuticals, so don’t be cavalier about taking them. But don’t let the potential risks stop you from taking something if you feel it will help you. Just make sure you understand what you’re doing and then do what you feel is best, based on what you discover.
